Supertrend
ORB

An opening-range breakout that only fires with the trend behind it. Supertrend sets direction, the morning range sets the level, and a volume gate keeps you out of dead sessions.

// the sequence

Four gates between the open and a trade

Nothing fires on a hunch. Each session has to pass the same checklist, in order, before a signal prints.

01

Read the open

For the first 15 minutes after 9:30 ET the indicator watches instead of signalling. It records the opening range — the session's first high and low — and measures how much volume came through the door.

02

Check the volume tier

That opening volume is compared to the recent average. A dead, low-volume open is skipped entirely — no signals all day. Decent and high-volume sessions earn the right to trade, with the stronger ones sized for a larger target.

03

Take the trend-aligned breakout

A close beyond the opening range triggers an entry only when Supertrend already agrees on direction and price sits on the right side of VWAP. An optional ADX filter steps aside in chop, so you're trading breakouts that have a trend behind them.

04

Manage the risk

The stop rides under the Supertrend line with an ATR floor so it never sits on top of price. Targets scale to the day's range or a fixed point goal, a minimum reward-to-risk gate vetoes lopsided setups, and every signal draws its reward and risk as boxes right on the chart.

What it looks like live

The whole state of the indicator reads off the band — no clutter, no second-guessing.

Figure 1: Complete visualization on the S&P E-mini. A grey band marks the opening detection window, then Supertrend turns green below price in an uptrend and red above price in a downtrend. Breakouts in the trend direction print BUY / SELL labels, each with its reward-and-risk box drawn on the chart.

Figure 2: The volume gate doing its job. On a slow open, every would-be breakout is tagged skip: low vol and the session is stood down — the filter that keeps the indicator out of dead, choppy days instead of forcing trades.

Classic Supertrend band

Light-green band below price in an uptrend, red above in a downtrend, grey while the open is still forming. The trend is readable at a glance.

Volume tiers

A relative-volume gate that mutes slow sessions and scales targets up on active ones — the filter that keeps you out of chop days.

Trend & chop filters

VWAP bias and an optional ADX gate stack on top of Supertrend so a breakout has to earn its entry, not just touch a level.

Visible risk

Every entry draws its reward and risk as boxes on the chart, with an ATR-floored stop and a minimum reward-to-risk veto.
